The Ghost truncates one of the great names from Rolls-Royce’s past, the Silver Ghost, a moniker that attached itself to the full line of classically reliable and smooth 40/50s produced from 1906 to 1926. These were the cars that prompted The Autocar and Motor to call Rolls-Royce “The Best Car in the World.” The new Rolls-Royce Ghost reintroduces the art (forgotten by some motor manufacturers)of delivering a beautifully smooth ride. From the moment you enter the cabin, a sense of calm descends: the seats are beautifully trimmed in the softest of leathers, the centre armrest is perfectly positioned for arm-resting and the dials before you are a model of clarity. With every amenity available, including audio/video setups, a dedicated electrically adjusted purse holder and infinite climate control through 11 face-level vents. A generous wheelbase allows for genuine comfort all 'round, and extensive sealing suggests it will be silent apart from the sound system. Naturally, there is a fine analog clock, a quick-drying umbrella in a heated compartment inside each front door, and a central wheel/mouse controller for myriad systems fine-tuning. In the rear cabin, where the rear seats are individually sculpted and provide extremely comfortable accommodation. The Rolls Royces Ghost features a new turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 producing around 500 horsepower and coupled with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. There’s enough power on offer to keep the clever traction control very busy, especially in the damp conditions we experienced, and it allows the Ghost to be hustled in a manner you would never dare try with a Phantom.
